Stereolithography Apparatus (SLA) Printing - Resin
This form of printing is close to four times the resolution of FDM printing (see below). It uses an ultraviolet screen to cure an incredibly thin layer of liquid resin. This resin then sticks to the previous layer. The semi-solid model is washed, then cured on a UV turntable. An average print consists of around 700-800 layers.
Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) Printing - Filament
This form of printing involves the melting of filament and extruding it through a thin diameter nozzle. This nozzle is guided to trace the path of the layer. An average print print generally consists of 100-250 layers.
